What is Semaphore?

Semaphore is a CI/CD platform for building, testing, releasing, and deploying software through visual or YAML workflows. Its cloud service provides hosted runners, while the Apache-licensed Community Edition can be self-hosted with unlimited users and concurrency.

BEFORE YOU SIGN UP

What you should know

Parallel pipeline executionJobs within a block can run concurrently, and workflows can combine parallel blocks with dependencies for staged delivery.
Self-hosted Community EditionThe Community Edition is Apache-licensed, costs $0, and includes unlimited users and concurrency, with the team managing its own infrastructure.
One-hour default job limitCloud jobs have a one-hour default duration limit, configurable per job up to a maximum of 24 hours.
Cloud usage is credit-basedThe free monthly credits cover only a fixed amount of compute, storage, and egress. Extra usage is billed by machine time and storage.

COMMUNITY

From the forums

Reddit discussions present Semaphore as a smaller CI alternative with fast pipelines and useful parallel execution. The tradeoffs mentioned in older threads include a smaller ecosystem and CD capabilities that may need extra work, while recent discussions also use the name Semaphore for the unrelated Ansible UI, so product comparisons need care.

FAQ

Questions, answered.

How much free usage does Semaphore Cloud include?

The current pricing page includes $15 in monthly credits, about 2,000 Ubuntu x64 2-vCPU minutes, 20 concurrent jobs, 100 GB of artifact storage, 20 GB of egress, and 9.6 GB of cache per project.

Does Semaphore require a credit card?

No. Semaphore's Cloud quickstart explicitly says no credit card is required to try the service. Usage beyond the included credits can later be billed according to the current rates.

What is the difference between Semaphore Cloud and Community Edition?

Cloud is a managed CI service with hosted machines and usage-based billing. Community Edition is Apache-licensed, self-hosted, free of license fees, and provides unlimited users and concurrency, but you operate the infrastructure.
