ABOUT

What is Cloudflare?

Cloudflare combines generous static hosting with edge compute, DNS, CDN delivery, security and storage services. Cloudflare Pages supports static deployments with 500 monthly builds and unlimited static bandwidth, while Workers runs JavaScript and TypeScript close to users across Cloudflare's global network with 100,000 daily requests on the free tier. Workers use lightweight isolates instead of traditional containers, which avoids the noticeable cold starts common to many serverless platforms.

BEFORE YOU SIGN UP

What you should know

✓
No traditional cold starts in WorkersWorkers run in lightweight V8 isolates, so requests do not need to wait for a full container or virtual machine to start.
✓
Global CDN delivery includedDeployments are served through Cloudflare's global network without separate CDN configuration.
✓
Unlimited static bandwidthPages does not impose a typical static-site bandwidth cap, which is valuable for high-traffic documentation and marketing sites.
△
Cloudflare-specific data servicesKV, R2, D1 and Durable Objects are powerful but can make an architecture more dependent on Cloudflare.
✕
Some Next.js features need workaroundsApplications that rely on full Next.js ISR or Vercel-specific behavior may need architectural adjustments.

COMMUNITY

From the forums

Reddit feedback is especially positive about the speed, global distribution and value of Cloudflare Pages and Workers. Developers often describe the platform as excellent for static sites and lightweight edge APIs. The main trade-off is learning Cloudflare-specific products such as KV, R2, D1 and Durable Objects, plus framework compatibility limitations when an application depends on features that are tightly coupled to another hosting provider.

FAQ

Questions, answered.

Is Cloudflare Pages free?+

Yes. Cloudflare Pages offers static sites with unlimited bandwidth, 500 builds per month and Git-based deployment at no cost. There is no traffic cap for static assets, unlike Netlify (100 GB/month) or Vercel.

How many requests does Cloudflare Workers allow for free?+

The Workers free plan includes 100,000 requests per day. The limit resets every 24 hours. If you need more, the Workers Paid plan ($5/month) includes 10 million requests and charges $0.50 per million beyond that.

Does Cloudflare Pages have cold starts?+

Not in the traditional sense. Cloudflare Workers uses V8 Isolates instead of containers, meaning code starts in under one millisecond. There is no server to warm up between requests.

Does Cloudflare Pages work with Next.js?+

It works with Next.js in static mode and with Workers for functions, but full ISR and some Next.js 13+ App Router features require adjustments. For full Next.js SSR without trade-offs, Vercel remains the most direct option.

What is the difference between Cloudflare Pages and Cloudflare Workers?+

Pages is optimized for websites and JAMstack applications with Git-based deploys. Workers is the edge compute platform for running functions and APIs. In practice, Pages can use Workers to add serverless logic and both run on the same global Cloudflare network.

Does Cloudflare charge for bandwidth?+

For static sites on Pages, there is no bandwidth limit or charge. For Workers, the free plan bills by request count rather than data transfer. This is one of Cloudflare's strongest value propositions compared with competitors that charge per GB.
